We are alarm free
Many of our communities are alarm free which makes the upBed bed exit detector a perfect fit as it alerts caregivers silently through existing nurse call systems.
Alarm free makes sense. Traditional pad and tag alarms didn't work. They alerted too late, the noise scared residents, and they created alarm fatigue among staff. Worse, staff just responded to the alarms, ignoring the resident needs. These are all good reasons to go alarm free. We'd encourage you to try out upBed on your highest fall risk resident to experience first hand how upBed is different, and the benefits it can provide. |
upBed is compliant with CMS guidelines on Alarms & Restraints
upBed is compliant under the new regulation but, like all tools it must be used appropriately. upBed is not a replacement for round checks, fall huddles, and other standard fall prevention strategies. We've created this page to provide additional information on the guidelines and proper use of upBed.
upBed is person centered

Our communities use upBed on their highest fall risk residents, and have reduced falls by 90%. These are residents that won't call for help, and often have dementia. Traditional bed exit alarms can't be used, or don't work.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if someone turns over or moves in their sleep?
upBed relies on body movement and body angle to accurately predict bed exits. The combination of these two measurements removes false positives caused by movement while sleeping. The staff feedback also tunes the detection over time to be more accurate.
What are you sensing?
upBed senses both body movement and the angle of the residents leg.
What about chair exits?
upBed is primarily used to detect bed exits at night. However, some customers will place upBed on the resident's thigh or in their pocket to accurately detect chair exits as well.
What is the range?
The range between the hub and anklet is 50 yards inside. This will cover large rooms. We recommend keeping the hub and anklet in the same room, and removing the anklet from the resident when it's not in use.
Can you wash the anklet?
The anklet can be washed, but you must remove the sensor first. The sensor is splash resistant but not waterproof.
Is upBed considered a restraint under CMS guidelines?
The short answer is no, but we've created this page to help clarify the guidelines and how upBed fits.
